39 Weeks!

Today I am officially 39 weeks. We made it, all the way to the scheduled c-section. Truth be told, I did not expect to get all the way here, but I am so excited we did. I know everyone in excited to see pictures and hear stats, but since Sprout isn’t going to be making an appearance until a little later today I have a new belly shot and some other numbers to share with you.

3:30, 39, 10, 2, 6, 2

At 3:30 this morning I finally crawled into my own bed. I was 39 weeks pregnant. I would be having surgery and a baby in 10 hours. I had already changed 2 diapers and been up with the girls 6 times. I had also slept on the floor of the girls’ room for 2 hours.

That’s right. To celebrate my last night before a newborn, the girls decided to remind me of what I was going back to… you know, for old times sake. Thanks a lot girls!

Also, you need the results of the gender poll! According to your votes 73% think Sprout is a BOY. 26% think Sprout is a GIRL. We’ll just have to wait and see!

And one last time, here is babycenter.com’s update:

Your baby’s waiting to greet the world! He continues to build a layer of fat to help control his body temperature after birth, but it’s likely he already measures about 20 inches and weighs a bit over 7 pounds, a mini watermelon. (Boys tend to be slightly heavier than girls.) The outer layers of his skin are sloughing off as new skin forms underneath.

Happy Birthday Sprout! We can’t wait to meet you 🙂

38 Weeks

Another week bites the dust. Do I need to tell you how excited I am to have made it to 38 weeks? No? O.k. Well I’ll just show you a new picture then.

And here is what babycenter.com says about Sprout this week:

Your baby has really plumped up. She weighs about 6.8 pounds and she’s over 19 1/2 inches long. She has a firm grasp, which you’ll soon be able to test when you hold her hand for the first time! Her organs have matured and are ready for life outside the womb. For many women, the next couple of weeks are a waiting game. Use this time to prepare your baby’s nursery or to take care of necessary tasks you may not get around to for a while after your baby’s born. Take naps, catch up on your reading, and spend uninterrupted time with your partner while you can.

I love this advice. I’ll just add naps, book reading and quality time to my endless list of things to do before the baby arrives. Which, by the way is ONE WEEK from today! I can’t believe this is my last week to be pregnant. Time sure does fly. That reminds me, don’t forget to vote on whether you think Sprout is a boy or girl. Right now the boys have it with a whopping 77% vs. the girls with only 22%.

The Big One

I have asked quite a few questions during this pregnancy. Most recently, how pregnant is too pregnant to wash my hair bent over the bathtub. (Whatever the answer is, 37 weeks isn’t it!) Another big one is whether or not to circumcise if it is a boy. But the time has come to ask the biggest one of all.

What do YOU think Sprout will be, a boy or a girl?

So vote now, and I’ll try to reveal the final results shortly before the baby is born.

37 Weeks

Woo Hoo! Another goal has been hit. I am now considered “full term”. It is something I am aware other people are noticing about me as well. The girl who did my haircut the other night was very alert anytime I took a deep breath, and pleaded with me to not go into labor while in her chair. I also see the hesitation on people’s faces before they board an elevator with me. I know they are just imagining being trapped there and having to deliver my baby themselves. But I am feeling great! I could go on and on about how excited I am that Sprout will not be born premature, but that could get old week after week, so I will just share a new picture with you.

According to babycenter.com Sprout is probably about 6 1/3 pounds, and about 19 inches long. It will be so exciting to see if this baby looks anything like the girls did, or if he/she has totally different characteristics. Only a little bit left before we find out 🙂

And while we are on questions…  here is another. How pregnant is too pregnant to wash my hair bent over the tub?

It’s A Date

I saw my doctor again this morning for a routine appointment and everything looks great. I am not dilated at all, and he said the baby is “miles up there”, which is just music to my ears. I couldn’t be more thrilled to hear that little Sprout is in no hurry to come out and is going to stay and cook a little longer. Not to mention things will be so much smoother if we make it to the scheduled c-section since we will have family here to help then. If Sprout decides to come early we will be in a bit of a pickle since on the 25th my brother is getting married in Malibu. And yes, that does mean we will be missing his wedding, which is a major disappointment. But sometimes life happens and things just don’t work out the way you wish they would. My brother is marrying an amazing woman who I am overjoyed to take as my sister as well. I wish them all the best on their special day and for the rest of their lives. Anyways…. at my appointment today we also set a date and time to meet our newest munchkin! It is official. March 1st, 3:30pm. You may remember reading before about our date choice, and I am sad to say the 29th was not an option for us. The hospital won’t allow us the schedule until the first day of the last week before I am due, which is March 1st. So now it is up to Sprout if he/she wants to be a leap day baby. But for now, all is well in babyland and we are getting excited to meet our little one.

34 And 4

Today I am 34 weeks and 4 days. That is the exact point I was at when our girls were born. In a lot of ways it is actually really comforting. First of all, we haven’t had any problems so far (with the girls they were closely watching me for about 3 weeks before we got to delivery). Second of all, I have real life experience of what kinds of things we could expect from a baby born today. And third, short of something really terrible happening -think something like stillbirth- the outcome can only be better from here on out. All in all, I am feeling pretty darn good. We’ll get to schedule the c-section at my next appointment and then we’ll know when we get to meet this little guy or girl. Exciting!

But for now I need to post a picture. Well, actually two. This is my last week to do a comparison photo, and while it doesn’t seem to me to be as dramatic as previous weeks, I am going to chalk it up to the angle or something. I am no where near as big as I was the last time at this point. Heck, I still fit into ALL of my maternity clothes, which was not something I could say at like 6 months with the twins. Plus I am still around 20 pounds lighter than I was at delivery. But anyways, here you go!

34 weeks 4 days

Twin Belly 34 weeks

And… Babycenter.com’s two cents:

Your baby now weighs about 4 3/4 pounds and is almost 18 inches long. Her fat layers — which will help regulate her body temperature once she’s born — are filling her out, making her rounder. Her skin is also smoother than ever. Her central nervous system is maturing and her lungs are continuing to mature as well. By this week, fatigue has probably set in again, though maybe not with the same coma-like intensity of your first trimester. Your tiredness is perfectly understandable, given the physical strain you’re under and the restless nights of frequent pee breaks and tossing and turning, while trying to get comfortable. Now’s the time to slow down and save up your energy for labor day (and beyond).

So I guess I have an excuse for feeling like the laziest person in the world right now. I should be sitting back and relaxing, not trying to get laundry done, dishes washed, house cleaned, dinner cooked and toddler twins chased down. Cool. So who can I come get to do all that other stuff for me?

32 Weeks

Please ignore how hideous I look in this picture. Or please take into account that I had just been in the car for 8 hours with 2 (almost!) 2 year olds.  After a weekend with very little sleep. But I couldn’t let another week pass without a new belly shot. So here it is, at 32 weeks.

Which I thought we would compare to this picture of me with the twins. At just 25 weeks.

And for all those keeping track, here is how Sprout is developing according to BabyCenter.com.

By now, your baby weighs 3.75 pounds and is about 16.7 inches long, taking up a lot of space in your uterus. You’re gaining about a pound a week and roughly half of that goes right to your baby. In fact, she’ll gain a third to half of her birth weight during the next 7 weeks as she fattens up for survival outside the womb. She now has toenails, fingernails, and real hair (or at least respectable peach fuzz). Her skin is becoming soft and smooth as she plumps up in preparation for birth.

Merry Christmas AND 29 Weeks.

Merry Christmas to everyone out there in bloggy land. I hope you are all enjoying some good food, quality time and maybe some presents with the people you love. I hope you are not so lame that the only thing you have to do on Christmas Day is check my blog for updates. But in case you are that lame, or you read this tomorrow, I have a new (and an old) photo to share with you.

Me at 29 weeks!

Now, I almost didn’t share this picture because it is so weird. First my belly looks really pointy and that bugs me. I went through the same phase the last time, I guess I am just a pointy pregnant lady. That is my lot in life. Second, because it appears I am on a ship or something that is possible sinking. Why am I all lean-y?? Who knows. Anyways, if you can get past those two things maybe you can enjoy this new picture of my belly bump. And since I mentioned an old one too…

Here is me at 27 weeks with the twins. Wearing the same shirt.

I guess that second baby really makes a difference! Notice how in the twin one my shirt is already starting to tip up, and in the Sprout one I have more than enough shirt left to grow? Anyways… I thought you might enjoy that.

Here is also a little babycenter update on Sprout’s progress:

Your baby now weighs about 2 1/2 pounds (like a butternut squash) and is a tad over 15 inches long from head to heel. His muscles and lungs are continuing to mature, and his head is growing bigger to make room for his developing brain. To meet his increasing nutritional demands, you’ll need plenty of protein, vitamins C, folic acid, and iron. And because his bones are soaking up lots of calcium, be sure to drink your milk (or find another good source of calcium, such as cheese, yogurt, or enriched orange juice). This trimester, about 250 milligrams of calcium are deposited in your baby’s hardening skeleton each day.

So that’s it for now! Merry Christmas!

27 Weeks

I know, I know. I am a slacker. I owed you a new picture last weekend. In all honesty, I totally spaced and just forgot. Anyways, here is one from today @ 27 weeks.

And what Babycenter.com has to say about our little ones development:

This week, your baby weighs almost 2 pounds (like a head of cauliflower) and is about 14 1/2 inches long with her legs extended. She’s sleeping and waking at regular intervals, opening and closing her eyes, and perhaps even sucking her fingers. With more brain tissue developing, your baby’s brain is very active now. While her lungs are still immature, they would be capable of functioning — with a lot of medical help — if she were to be born now. Chalk up any tiny rhythmic movements you may be feeling to a case of baby hiccups, which may be common from now on. Each episode usually lasts only a few moments, and they don’t bother her, so just relax and enjoy the tickle.

24 Weeks

I apologize things have been a little quiet on my blog lately. The girls came down with colds on Tuesday (the second time they have been sick, ever!) and unfortunately it mostly took its toll during the night. For three nights straight they woke up about ever 1/2 an hour and couldn’t fall back asleep on their own. Needless to say, Russell and I took turns sleeping in the nursery with them. So we have all been a little tired and cranky around here. BUT… I am happy to report a better nights sleep last night for all of us, and a new picture of my baby bump!

Here I am at 24 weeks, 2 days.

And, you know I love to compare, so here is the best one I could find of me at exactly 24 weeks with the twins. This was taken at my baby shower with my fabulous mother, and my soon-to-be sister Angie.

And… since I know a few people enjoyed it before, here is a quick babycenter.com update about Sprout.

Your baby’s growing steadily, having gained about 4 ounces since last week. That puts him at just over a pound. Since he’s almost a foot long (picture an ear of corn), he cuts a pretty lean figure at this point, but his body is filling out proportionally and he’ll soon start to plump up. His brain is also growing quickly now, and his taste buds are continuing to develop. His lungs are developing “branches” of the respiratory “tree” as well as cells that produce surfactant, a substance that will help his air sacs inflate once he hits the outside world. His skin is still thin and translucent, but that will start to change soon.
