Apples & Pumpkins

This morning we visited our local orchard and did a bit of apple picking and pumpkin choosing. At first the only apples we saw were too squishy, brown, or all around yucky. But we quickly figured out a few tricks and ending up bring home pounds and pounds of granny smith apples. (Yes I have a plan for all that fruit!)

Then we threw kids in a stroller and a wagon and headed down to pick out pumpkins.

Since we went towards the end of the month the choices were not as abundant, but we found a few winners. Alyssa was desperate to find a little pumpkin and most were too big for her taste. We did tell her we could buy a little tiny one at the grocery store but she kept searching. In the end she did find one that made her little heart happy.

Kylie was easily persuaded into a simple pumpkin with some green spots on it.

Before we left we spent a little time in a hay maze. Last year the girls were too scared to go in, even with Russell, but this year they were a little braver. They didn’t quite get the concept and just wanted to climb over the bails. Surprise, surprise.

It was a fun morning that we were happy to share with my parents who were visiting. We tried taking a family picture, but with three little kids it didn’t go as easily as this Momma would have liked.

My little loves…

Easter Treats

I am sorry I wasn’t able to post this before Easter, but I didn’t discover it until the night before, and made it Easter evening. But these bird’s nests were so simple and delicious I just had to share it. (I think they’d be cute for a baby shower too!)

10-12 oz. crispy chow mein noodles

1 bag butterscotch chips

1 bag mini Cadbury eggs

Simply melt the butterscotch chips (I used a double boiler, but microwave will also work) and stir in noodles. Use a 1/4 cup measuring cup and scoop mixture onto parchment-paper-lined cookie sheet and dip in center. Add eggs. Cool in refrigerator before serving. That’s it. Enjoy!

Happy Easter

I hope everyone is enjoying (or did enjoy) their Easter celebrations with their families. We had a relaxing, but very fun day. Here are some pictures I wanted to share.

Happy Little Baby Bunny!

Alyssa, Wyatt and Kylie

Look what the Easter Bunny brought us this year!

For comparison here is what we got two years ago…

Let me also mention, Wyatt is almost a full month younger than the girls in these pictures.

Then it was time to find what the Easter Bunny brought the girls! (one of my new favorites)

Alyssa and Kylie

Finally, we had to take pictures with our bunnies again this year. They were a gift from my mom’s next door neighbor to the girls two years ago. And you know I love the growth pictures… 🙂

Merry Christmas AND 29 Weeks.

Merry Christmas to everyone out there in bloggy land. I hope you are all enjoying some good food, quality time and maybe some presents with the people you love. I hope you are not so lame that the only thing you have to do on Christmas Day is check my blog for updates. But in case you are that lame, or you read this tomorrow, I have a new (and an old) photo to share with you.

Me at 29 weeks!

Now, I almost didn’t share this picture because it is so weird. First my belly looks really pointy and that bugs me. I went through the same phase the last time, I guess I am just a pointy pregnant lady. That is my lot in life. Second, because it appears I am on a ship or something that is possible sinking. Why am I all lean-y?? Who knows. Anyways, if you can get past those two things maybe you can enjoy this new picture of my belly bump. And since I mentioned an old one too…

Here is me at 27 weeks with the twins. Wearing the same shirt.

I guess that second baby really makes a difference! Notice how in the twin one my shirt is already starting to tip up, and in the Sprout one I have more than enough shirt left to grow? Anyways… I thought you might enjoy that.

Here is also a little babycenter update on Sprout’s progress:

Your baby now weighs about 2 1/2 pounds (like a butternut squash) and is a tad over 15 inches long from head to heel. His muscles and lungs are continuing to mature, and his head is growing bigger to make room for his developing brain. To meet his increasing nutritional demands, you’ll need plenty of protein, vitamins C, folic acid, and iron. And because his bones are soaking up lots of calcium, be sure to drink your milk (or find another good source of calcium, such as cheese, yogurt, or enriched orange juice). This trimester, about 250 milligrams of calcium are deposited in your baby’s hardening skeleton each day.

So that’s it for now! Merry Christmas!

Kylie the Lion, Alyssa the monkey

Words can not express how proud my girls made me last night. They are usually very shy and have a bit of stranger anxiety so I fully expected to go to two or three houses, have them cry, and come home. And while they were very confused at the first couple of houses (which is to be expected since this was their first time, and it is a curious tradition) as the night went on they really got the hang of it.

heading out, still unsure

cruising the neighborhood

They held our hands whenever we were in the street, and enjoyed taking turns pushing the button (ringing the bell). They began to be brave enough to go up to the stranger and take the candy from them, and even would pick some out of the bowl themselves. They were not greedy though as they would only take one piece! It was so cute.

checking out what she got so far

By the last house they were so comfortable that they even talked to the people and were telling them what a lion and a monkey say! I think they really had a lot of fun.

they really liked the inflatables

At one point Alyssa stopped walking because she wanted to give each of us a kiss. I think it was her way of saying “this is really fun, thanks for bringing me here you guys!”

I don’t know that they really understood they were getting candy (since I am not sure they have ever had a piece of candy in their lives) but they knew they were getting something, and that was exciting enough for them.Their little buckets filled up much more quickly than I expected, and on a number of occasions Kylie’s spilled. Alyssa was quick to help her pick them up, although most of the spilled candy ended up in her own bucket.

O.k. Dad I'm ready!

helping Kylie ring the bell

At the end of the night we brought the girls home and let them search through their hauls. Since it was right before bed they didn’t get to eat anything, but they had a lot of fun shaking some of the boxes. And Kylie spent a while licking a box of milk duds. I think that may be her first piece she’ll get to try. They also got to help up pass out a bit of candy before they went to bed.

what is this?

Kylie was pooped

And for two little girls who have never had candy, they sure scored last night.

Happy Halloween!

This is now our second year posing for pictures with pumpkins, so you might think we did better since we have a bit of experience. Well, in truth, the whole experience was not much easier since the girls are so much more mobile than they were a year ago. But if you want to remember that simpler time… click here to see last year’s post.

And here the girls are this year!

Kylie holding her pumpkin…

Chillin’ out.

Lissie being cute.

Dance, dance Kylie.

I made their costumes this year also, but didn’t want to subject them to putting them on just for pictures. So I will post some tomorrow after we do a little trick-or-treating tonight (the girls’ first time ever!)

Happy Halloween!

Happy Fourth!

Happy Fourth of July! We are still out of town visiting family, so I don’t have much time but I wanted to share a couple of pictures from the girls’ first parade this morning.

Happy Easter!

Since I was driving for a good portion of the day on Sunday, and arrived only about 1/2 hour before the girls went to bed, we decided to celebrate Easter yesterday. At this age the girls don’t know the difference and this way all four of us could be together. First we took some pictures with their bunny rabbits.

here they were last year… for perspective.

Then they got their Easter baskets, each including a stuffed animal and a new touch and feel book.

Then it was time for eggs!

eggs were filled with chocolate cheerios

Alyssa was very impressed

and of course, we couldn’t let the whole thing go by without a little humiliation for at least one of our pets.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter weekend!

Special Delivery, Day Two!

Today we received a box from my parents, including a bag with the tag “Open Right Away!”. You don’t have to tell me twice. I found a couple of pairs of Christmas pj’s for the girls to enjoy in the coming days, and two ADORABLE ornaments. Each pink, each with the same year, each with a different name, and each with the line “Baby’s 1st Christmas”. They are more perfect than I could have imagined. Check them out.

Great job Grammy & Grampy! Thank you so much, I love them and I know the girls will too 🙂
