Evolution of a Chair

Over the past few days I spent some time reupholstering a chair for the girls. This was left behind after a yard sale we hosted back in September and sat untouched in our garage for months. I had never reupholstered anything before and wasn’t sure how hard it would be. Turns out it was actually really easy! Here is a list of items needed:

  • couch or chair to be reupholstered
  • new fabric
  • staple gun/staples
  • something to remove staples (I used a screwdriver and pliers)
  • a camera

That’s it! No sewing machine needed. I did need a touch of superglue to attach the fabric to some buttons, but that was specific to this chair.

Here are some pictures of the process:

the camera is to take pictures before and throughout the process, so you remember how to put it all back together.

carefully pull away staples and fabric, keeping the fabric intact (and possibly label the pieces… back, arm, etc.)

clean slate

use the fabric you removed as a template for cutting the new pieces. I ironed the old ones first so they were more true to size.

put the new cut fabric on and begin stapling in place.

all done!
