All About Bear – 9/30

Well, it is official… The Bear is on the move. She started crawling this last Friday/Saturday-ish. I don’t have a video of it yet since it is still in that early crawl/scoot/lunge/getting frustrated she isn’t moving as fast as she would like stage. But she can definitely get that forward motion she has been striving for for so long. The whole world has opened up to her and she has discovered all the things we have left around he house that used to be just out of reach. I guess it is time to go and re-baby proof!

In other news, she has adopted Bean’s “no” head shake, although she is a little more indecisive than her sister. Her head shake is sometimes “yes”, sometimes “no” and often somewhere in between.

She was NOT happy about her first taste of avocado and kindly spit it right back out at me. (I don’t blame her, I don’t like it either!) She had similar feelings about yogurt, but has since come around (sort of).

The other night Russell and I were having a discussion about if our girls were circus performers what would they be. We decided Bear would be the person shot out of a cannon. She is fearless, and a little ball of energy. Just try to hold her in one place and see what happens! But she can also be very cuddly – as long as it is on her terms, which usually means during the night-time hours. She does love to snuggle up right after she finishes eating and fall asleep next to your chest or tucked into your shoulder.

Stay tuned and I’ll post a video of her crawling just as soon as I get one!

Awesome Deals

This is  a post for stay at home moms, or really anyone who has a little extra time online. I wanted to share some of the websites I use that I have found pay off.

Swagbucks Some of you may know about this already, but if not here it is. Swagbucks is a website that gives you rewards for searching the internet like you already do, but through their page. They also have surveys and polls and stuff that give rewards to. So far I have collected gift cards for Cafepress, CookiesKids, and Amazon.

MyView is a survey website that gives you rewards for taking their surveys. There are a lot of these out there, but this one doesn’t cost anything (you never have to pay to sign up for “great offers” and then give your opinion) or sign up for all sorts of things you don’t want. You simply qualify for a survey or you don’t. One cool thing is even if you don’t qualify for a survey you still get a small amount of points, which can really add up. Sometimes it can take a while to each enough points to actually collect anything, but they offer things from Restaurant.com gift cards, to Gap gift cards, to just regular prepaid Visa cards.

Then, my favorite… Viewpoints. This is the easiest way I have found to get some great rewards. Viewpoints is a website where people review products they already use at home. From baby products, to shampoo, to blenders. You can write reviews for free, OR you can wait until they offer incentives. The last one I did was 10 reviews for a $10 Amazon card. They have to be 900 characters long, and in certain categories, but it is fairly easy to do. Right now they are running a special 5-9 reviews $5 Amazon card, 10-19 reviews, $10 card, and 20+ reviews $25 card! I am going to take my reward cards and get Lost Season 6 for free. Booyah.

All of these websites do pay out, as I have received rewards already from each of them. So hopefully you can benefit from them too 🙂

I need a husband that won’t drive me crazy- 9/28

It is time for another installment of “I need a husband that won’t drive me crazy”, although in good conscience I can’t write one today. This week my husband has been especially great so I can’t even complain about the little things. So instead I’ll mention a few of the cool things he did.

Last night right as we were crawling into bed for the night our dog Rusty started throwing up. Awesome, right? It’s late, we finally got the girls down, we are tired and ready for bed and now have to deal with a sick dog. Anyways, he completely took care of it himself and let me stay in bed!

And, the toilet paper in our bathroom ran out over the weekend. There wasn’t even any under the sink. Not only did he refill it- he had to go out to the garage to get more to refill it! As if that wasn’t enough, he even put the toilet roll on correctly (so the paper comes over the top).

So, in light of these two events, I’m going to skip my usual post this week and just say how thankful I am to be married to a wonderful man. I love you sweetheart!

Also, I want to know how you like your toilet paper hanging… the right way, or the wrong way?

All About Bean – 9/27

Russell got the girls dressed this morning before I got up. You might be thinking “uh oh”, but actually he is great at picking out their outfits. Today he has Bean wearing a white shirt with little slices of fruit on one sleeve and what I call their creamsicle pants. They are orange and white stripped. Very cute!

We had some family in town this weekend… my dad, step-mom and my grandmother. Bean had a lot of fun playing with them all, and they were very entertained by her. She does a little bounce when she sits and gets excited. While the Bear is off trying to crawl Lissie is perfectly happy to sit in one place, bounce, and play with the toys that surround her. All the while she is babbling and talking and shrieking. Another funny thing Bean does is shake her head as if saying “no”. She doesn’t actually mean “no”, I think she just likes the way things look when she does it, but it can be very funny when you are talking to her and it looks like she is disagreeing with you. “O.k. It is time for your sister to have a diaper change” (shakes head no), “Let’s have some carrots for lunch” (shakes head no). She always has such a serious face when she does it too. She is so funny!

Last night we made a trip to Wal-mart and to Lowe’s right before bedtime. When we got home she surprised us by taking only 1/2 a bottle, falling asleep at 8pm and not waking up until 6am! I guess home improvements can be tiring!

You may have read that Bear was messing with Bean while she was sleeping the other morning… Well, while we had our house guests this weekend, the girls were displaced by their great-grandmother and had to sleep in the pack ‘n play in our room. I guess it is a little smaller than their crib and Alyssa decided she needed a little more than her share of the bed. I guess with twins it can go both ways…

Thankful

This evening I am feeling very thankful to have the wonderful family I do. I am totally in love with my husband and my baby girls, but I also feel so thankful for our extended families. Recently we have been blessed in a number of ways, by a number of people. I won’t go into how each person has blessed us, but if they are reading this post they know who they are. We are surrounded by such selfless, generous, joyful-giving people and I never want to take any of them for granted. So to everyone who has touched our lives, this post is for you. I Love You, and Thank you!

Whose side are you on?

As many of you probably heard there is going to be a lot going on on October 30th in Washington, DC. Stephen Colbert will be hosting the March to Keep Fear Alive, while John Stewart will be hosting the Rally to Restore Sanity. In case you have not heard anything about these two events, here is some info about what each event is about.

The Rally to Restore Sanity is looking for people who “think shouting is annoying, counterproductive, and terrible for your throat; who feel that the loudest voices shouldn’t be the only ones that get heard; and who believe that the only time it’s appropriate to draw a Hitler mustache on someone is when that person is actually Hitler.” They also say theirs “is a rally for the people who’ve been too busy to go to rallies, who actually have lives and families and jobs (or are looking for jobs) — not so much the Silent Majority as the Busy Majority.”

While the March to Keep Fear Alive wants to remind us that “America, the Greatest Country God ever gave Man, was built on three bedrock principles: Freedom. Liberty. And Fear — that someone might take our Freedom and Liberty” and that ” ‘Reason’ is just one letter away from ‘Treason.’ Coincidence? Reasonable people would say it is, but America can’t afford to take that chance. ”

In a world where Ronald Reagan can be President, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jesse Ventura can be Governors, and Clint Eastwood and Jerry Springer can be Mayors, it seems the line between entertainment and politics is getting a little blurred. Even this morning Stephen Colbert (in character) testified before a House Judiciary subcommittee.

Maybe these men have more political sway than even they realize. So, which rally would you attend?

Another reason to breastfeed!!!

Similac is issuing a recall of powdered formulas due to contamination of beetles and beetle larvae! Their official reason is that the formula “did not meet its quality standards”. I should hope not!!!

All About Bear – 9/23

Kylie is our little mischief-maker. You can see it in her eyes… she’s gonna be trouble. Even now before she can crawl she still manages to roll and scoot her way around to get into all sorts of things she shouldn’t. Her new obsession is power cords. The laptop, my breast pump, the cable. If there is a cord she wants to get to it, and she wants to chew on it.

She woke up this morning and played in the crib for a little while before she made any noise to let us know she was awake. Which sounds really sweet, except for the fact that her idea of playing was trying to rearrange her sister’s face – while Bean was still sleeping. Russell managed to get some pictures of her caught red-handed.

A new store

So, tonight’s blog is going to be short and sweet. And only for my like-minded Las Vegas friends… so probably no one. Hehe. Anyways, we found a great little shop today called Well Rounded Baby. They sell cloth diapers and home birth kits and breastfeeding supplies. We bought two new Thirsties covers in the next size up for the girls. I encourage you to find a store in your area like it! It was really nice to be able to check out all the different products and supplies. Here is what we came home with:

I need a husband that won’t drive me crazy – 9/21

Today’s post will be a regular installment around my blog, although I am not sure it will make it in every week. We’ll see!

Let me preface by saying I have an awesome husband who I love very much. The purpose of these posts is more to poke fun at me and how anal I am about a lot of things. As you come to read more and more of these you will probably be saying “well I wish my husband would even do that!”.

So today’s complaint is going to be an old one, just to introduce you into my world. When we lived in Colorado we had a very old apartment (it only had 6 electrical outlets in the whole apartment- kitchen and bathroom included!) and the cabinets were latching cabinets. Russell would open a cabinet to get out a plate or cup or something and then would leave it open. He might leave the door open wide, or he would mostly close it but not latch it. It drove me CRAZY!

Do you know someone who drives you crazy over little things?
